10 Hilarious Accounts You've Got to Follow if You Work in Hospitality

Trends 62 minute read 18th May 2021

Sometimes, we all need a bit of light relief, and for all the criticism that’s often thrown the way of social media, it does provide plenty of respite from the daily grind.

The trick lies in finding the accounts which closely match your own interests, likes and, most importantly, sense of humor.

Today, we’re going to hone in on Instagram and focus on ten accounts which you must follow if you work in hospitality.

While Instagram might be a fantastic platform for marketing (it’s thought that over 130 million users engage with shopping posts on a monthly basis), sometimes it’s just good for a laugh.

We reckon that at least one or two of the following accounts will put a smile on your face today. Make sure you follow them!

1. @server.memes

“This page is dedicated to making people in the service industry laugh,” says server.memes’ Instagram profile. What more do you need to dig into this collection of memes, jokes and reference only people who work in this industry will understand?

The content is a mixture of original memes, screenshots from funny tweets and photos from followers. Try not to smile.

2. @server_life

You’ll find server life on Twitter, too, but their Instagram account is the one to latch onto if you need some light relief from your current shift.

There’s the odd bit of naughty language, but if you don’t mind that, you’ll find plenty of gems within their content, which features lots of original photos.

3. @hotelmemes

With over 30,000 followers, hotelmemes is one of the most popular hospitality-related Instagram accounts, and it’s not hard to see why.

New posts arrive regularly and are chock-full of references to guest encounters and staff issues, which only a select few will fully appreciate.

4. @Chipotle

Chipotle are well known for their somewhat irreverent, tongue-in-cheek approach to their marketing strategy. And who can blame them? It’s worked pretty well so far!

Expect the odd brand promo (this is a business account, after all), but there are loads of refreshingly non-branded, hilarious content to be had, too.

5. @Denny’s

The Denny’s Instagram account isn’t as laugh-out-loud funny as some of the accounts on here, but all of their posts contain a healthy dose of self-referential humor and some wonderful word play.

There isn’t a single post which doesn’t demand a few seconds of your time. A must-follow.

6. @Deer Path Inn

Deer Path Inn is a lovely hotel based in Lake Forest, Illinois, and at first glance, their Instagram account just looks like any other hotel social media feed.

But look closer, and you’ll see plenty of humor thrown in for good measure. From staff hitting golf balls into the hotel from the car park to inexplicable pictures of Christmas elves asleep in bathtubs, it’s a bit of a riot.

7. @Love Hate Hotels

If there’s one Instagram account description which sums up this industry, it’s the Love Hotel Hotels’. “The Hotel Industry: Love it. Hate it. Can’t escape it.”

Every post is golden if you work in this industry; there’s almost certainly going to be several posts each week which raise a knowing smile among you and your colleagues.

8. @hospitalititty

If you’re looking for completely original hospitality industry memes, this Instagram account is for you.

Occasionally a little saucy, but nearly always laugh-out-loud funny, it demands a cheeky follow if you occasionally what to have a laugh about this wonderful industry.

9. @vegas.bartender

The name of this Instagram account alone should be enough to tempt you to hit that follow button, but we can confirm that it lives up to its promises of “stiff drinks and relatable memes”.

That’s exactly what you get. And if you work behind a bar in any kind of establishment, you’ll recognize many of the in-jokes and musings immediately.

10. @Confessions Of A Server

It takes a long time to build a following on Instagram of over 30,000, but it’s not hard to see how this guy has done just that.

Run (we think) by one hospitality worker who regularly appears in the posts himself, this is about as raw and ‘inside baseball’ as it comes. Dive in and see what it’s really like to be a server in the modern hospitality industry.

Why humour matters with social media marketing

You’ll have noticed that some of the accounts above are brand accounts, which means they’re owned, operated and strategized by businesses.

You may, therefore, wonder why they’ve gone down the route of focusing on humour. Shouldn’t they be careful with what they say, do and post on social media?

Of course, an Instagram account isn’t an open invitation to throw caution to the wind with your brand image, but with around one billion monthly users on Instagram, a bit of humour can go a long way.
